ARCHITECTURAL WONDER

Designed by the renowned firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), led by Adrian Smith FAIA, RIBA, the Burj Khalifa is a work of art in the sky. The triple-lobed base is inspired by the regional desert flower, Hymenocallis, while the spiraling design, with its set-back wings and central core, culminates in a sculpted spire. Evocative of Islamic architectural styles, the Burj Khalifa’s design also pays homage to the classic onion domes when viewed from above.
